Sic Bo — Rules and Game Overview

Sic bo is the oldest game on most modern lobbies: three dice, a betting grid, and no skill whatsoever after the bets close. That combination makes it an ideal game for learning how house edge works — because every bet type shows the edge differently.

The mechanic

Three dice are shaken in a sealed cage or by an automated shooter in a live studio. Players bet on combinations before the shake. The grid publishes every payout; nothing is hidden and nothing is decided by skill.

The betting grid

  • Big / Small — total 11–17 or 4–10; the classic near-even bets, voided by any triple.
  • Odd / Even — same shape, same triple exception.
  • Total — exact sum of the three dice; payouts climb steeply from totals 4 or 17 upward.
  • Single number — pays by how many of the three dice show your chosen face.
  • Double / Triple — two or three dice showing the same face; the specific triple pays around 180:1 and is mathematically the worst bet on the table.

What the edges look like

Big/Small carries among the lowest edges in the casino; specific triples among the highest. Same game, same dice — the bet choice alone swings the expected loss per round enormously. That spread is the clearest demonstration of why reading published paytables matters more than any "strategy" article.

Where it fits

Sic bo appears both as a digital RNG title and in live studios; the proof standards differ exactly as described in the casino games guide. For the vocabulary around dice games, the glossary has the definitions, and the casino overview puts the game in context. Play remains a matter for adults where local law permits it.
